All in a day's work... these are some of the answers I got on our musical questionaire. Our sixth graders spent three days of classtime watching the musical, The Newsies (with Christian Bale). I graded the papers today, and I must say, there were some interesting answers.....If you've seen the movie, I think you'll find these rather funny.

*Why does a man chase Jack with the police?
- The police chases Jack because he is a refugee.
*What happens at the end of the newsies rally?
- The popo comes and they run.
*Why doesn't Crutchie want to leave the Refuge?
- Crutchie likes being a refuge.
*What can you do to make a positive difference in the world?
- I can make a difference by doing or helping animals shelters and making people buy them. You all can help animals last longer and good pets. We can all make a difference.
- I can make a difference by getting people to help puppies in the SPCA.
- Tell parents start finding another way to get to work. So they can save money. Also, they can boycot gas. To make them lower the prices. Tell your parents you will ride you bike to school or walk.
- I know one way we could make a difference. We could close down the car making companies. We'd do this to stop using our natural resources and to stop burning fossil fuels. We'd invent a way to have a car that doesn't run on gas. And we wouldn't stop until we did.
- I can make a different by stopping people from loitering. The world could be a cleaner place. We would also have less polution in the air.
- A young person can make a positive difference in the world by saving the world. Saving the world to die out and by flooded. You may think that 1 kid won't do the difference. Who knows? Maybe it will. Any young child can do this.
- I can make a difference by starting a new thing that everyone wants to follow.
- I think we can make a difference by helping out more, doing better in school, being good and having nice manners, standing up for what's right. Singing!
- I would stand up for what I believe is right. I will show the world that what people are doing is wrong. I would try to make people not be rasis. I would shout to the world that drugs are not the choise. I would kind of do anything to make people do the right thing.
- I would go to the war and talk to the soldiers. Tell them to kill any of them because they might have nuclear weapons. If we win the awr, I think I be a patriot because my cousin is in the war.
*How does the paper's owner (Mr. Pulitzer) decide to make more money for his newspaper?
- Erased the price. [I think he meant: He raised the price.]
* How are the newsies going to get the newspapers' attention?
- The newsies are going to throw a pep-rally to get their attention.
How do the newsies decide to get back at the newspaper for raising their prices?
- They decide to go on spike.
